Privately owned by a Maldivian entrepreneur, The Nautilus stands as a beacon of absolute freedom and bespoke luxury. From the moment guests arrive, they are welcomed like old friends—met off the runway, whisked through a VIP lounge for customs, and flown by the resort’s private seaplane to this bohemian hideaway. Nestled in the heart of Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the resort’s 26 exclusive beach and ocean residences create an immensely private and personalized experience. Each residence, complete with a separate living room and private pool, feels like a personal sanctuary where comfort meets whimsical charm. Wrapped in a vibrant coral reef, the island ensures world-class snorkeling is just a step away, offering an unending connection to its pristine natural surroundings.
At The Nautilus Maldives, our scope extended across architecture, interior design, and branding, ensuring every detail was aligned with the resort’s vision of unparalleled luxury and freedom. We worked closely with the concept architect to refine the villa and residence layouts, enhancing spatial flow, maximizing views, and achieving optimal privacy. Our intricate, exposed-structure ceilings became a signature design element, unique to each building while maintaining a cohesive material palette. We delivered full-scope interior design, balancing bespoke luxury with practical solutions for the challenges of remote island construction. From hand-drawn watercolor renderings to detailed CGI tours, our work supported the resort’s launch, ensuring its identity resonated with a discerning market. Further, our modular design approach streamlined buildability, achieving the highest quality in shorter timeframes. Complementing this was our work on signage and branding, where a bohemian theme was harmoniously paired with world-class luxury, positioning The Nautilus as a leader in a hyper-competitive market.
At the heart of The Nautilus lies a commitment to unique design and functionality. Working with the architect, we optimized villa layouts to blend uninterrupted views with privacy, crafting spaces that feel both expansive and intimate. Intricate, exposed-structure ceilings became the architectural signature, evolving across different spaces yet united by a common design language.
We approached the interiors with a focus on luxury and practicality, creating designs that would stand up to the challenges of island construction without compromising quality. Thoughtfully curated furnishings, materials, and finishes embody barefoot elegance, ensuring every space feels bespoke, serene, and harmonious with its surroundings.
Our role extended beyond design into branding, where we brought the resort’s bohemian luxury concept to life. Every visual and material detail—down to signage—was carefully curated to create a cohesive identity. This holistic approach contributed to The Nautilus being celebrated as the ‘World’s Best New Luxury Hotel’ and one of the ‘Top 3 Resorts in the World.’
